My writing has evolved over the semester a great deal. I think that my writing has improved by means of using better grammer, punctuation, and sentence structure. Every writing project
was a challange for me because I have a learning disability, but I believe that this class was very informative and helped me a great deal with doing these assignments. The revision process helped me to see where I needed work on my punctuation and everything else to do with writing.

Portfolio Paper #3
Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like to enroll in Harvard Law School because I want to be a great lawyer. I’m a very dedicated and hard worker I also learn very quickly. I also love to investigate things and to solve puzzles in games and in life. By attending and graduating from a highly respected college such as Harvard Law would help me greatly in perusing my future career.
When attending high school I got the top grades in my class. I also was class president, captain of the chess and football teams. After high school I joined the Army and served in intelligence. While in the Army I became airborne qualified and served on the sniper and special forces units. In the Army I also was certified in: ammo handler, combat life saver, hazmat, school bus, hum-v, and large truck license. I believe that my time spent in the military has given me the dedication and discipline that will be needed by someone to do well in your college.
My ultimate goal for my education is to graduate with a masters degree in criminal law. I also intend to further my government service by joining the Federal Bureau of Investigation where I will enjoy putting hardened and intelligent criminals behind bars by using the skills acquired from attending such a well known and respected college like Harvard Law. I hope that I am everything you are looking for and I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely, Joshua A. Reel

Comparison/Contrast
The two main types of motorcycles that people buy to ride are cruisers and sport. There are a few similarities between these two types of motorcycles and there are even more differences. Now a sport bike is like a Kawasaki Ninja also known as a “crotch rocket,” style of motorcycle. A cruiser is better known as the Harley-Davidson style of motorcycle. The perception is to most people that a motorcycle is a motorcycle when in reality these two styles are different in many ways.
A sport motorcycle is built more for speed rather than comfort especially when it comes to riding long distance. On a sport style you are pretty much stuck in a forward-leaning position which tends to hurt the back. According to Popular Mechanics, “Light and powerful, these bikes have a race-bred chassis and triple disc brakes (two front, one rear). The forward-leaning riding position is not comfortable for long-distance riding.” (internet). This style is also very hard to find for a shorter person to ride. Now I’m sure most of you have seen people on sport bikes and maybe noticed that they can not put their entire foot on the ground, usually they are on their tip toes, which is very unstable because you can easily drop the bike or possibly cause an accident. Another problem with sport bikes is that they have too much power. A sport bike has a great deal of power off the line (or start). A lot of people cause themselves to have an accident because they will give the bike too much gas and it will start to do a wheelie. Then the person would not know what to do and panic causing themselves to have an accident and possibly hurting someone else in the process. A sport bike is also not very practical for going long distance because you can’t carry very much on them especially when you have a passenger on it who will also not be comfortable on a long ride.
A cruiser motorcycle is built more for comfort rather than speed although more and more you can find a cruiser that can go quite fast. According to The Complete Motorcycle Book by Jim Bennett, “a cruiser is designed for a comfortable full-day ride. Features of a basic cruiser include massive displacement, enough power to scorch young punks, relatively easy to ride, relatively easy to maintain, comfort enough for a long days ride, a mellow, satisfying exhaust note, and room for two”(18).A cruiser is built more comfortable so that it is much easier to ride long distance. On a cruiser you are sitting in a more leaned back or relaxed position almost like sitting in a chair. This style of bike is made in such a way that almost anyone of any height can ride it comfortably. Now I’m sure some of you have noticed that someone riding on a cruiser has both feet flat on the ground which helps to keep the bike more stable and easier to control. Now this style of bike doesn’t have as much power off the start which makes it safer in the way that you can’t do a wheelie very easily which makes it easier to control. A cruiser is also much more practical for going long distance because you can carry more things on it at the same time you have a passenger on it who will also be comfortable. According to The Complete Motorcycle Book by Jim Bennett, “a cruiser is designed for a comfortable full-day ride. Features of a basic cruiser include massive displacement, enough power to scorch young punks, relatively easy to ride, relatively easy to maintain, comfort enough for a long days ride, a mellow, satisfying exhaust note, and room for two”(18).
In summary I hope that this essay has helped you to see the many differences between a sport and a cruiser style motorcycle. The sport style is built much more for speed rather than for comfort. The cruiser style is better built for comfort and long distance riding. Now in knowing everything I have just described you will know that in riding a cruiser you may have a better all around motorcycle unless of course you want to race then you should go with the sport.

‘My story begins many years ago in a simpler time. A time when my species ruled over and protected the human race. At times we would be considered monsters and not very reasonable, for when certain men got to much power and exploit that power we would eat them for we are dragons.’
‘My name is Quad. I am a dragon and I have been watching over mankind for three hundred years.’
‘Now to tell you more of my story. There is a man by the name Jonathan Winchester who had come into to much power and his protector came to end his rein of terror on the people of his lands. As his protector was coming Jonathan was warned by one of his followers. When his protector arrived to fulfill his duty Jonathan was ready for him. Jonathan had created a very large crossbow looking machine with a very large arrow, that was about twenty feet in length. When the dragon was nearing close Jonathan fired the arrow and killed the dragon giving him the idea that if he could rein over all mankind.’
‘Jonathan’s lust for power was greater than ever now that he believed he could declare himself a king and rule the rest of his life as long as he killed every last dragon. However Jonathan knew that he needed to convince all people that all dragons are evil creatures that deserve to die. Now he had to come up with a story to tell people, so as to scare them into wanting him to kill all dragons.’
‘Jonathan knew it would be difficult to convince people of his story unless they believed that he was in fact a simple farmer. For Jonathan knew that the people have loved and trusted dragons for millenniums to keep them from being turned into slaves by men with to much power.’
‘Now that he had his story Jonathan grabbed his ten best men and they all dressed themselves in raggedy clothes and dirt to make their story believable. They set out going from one province to the next killing off the dragon of that province.’
‘For a long time Jonathan had to retell his story each time, but after a few years his story was known everywhere. Everyone was now engulfed with rage toward all dragon kind and no longer trusted them. Jonathan was now getting more and more powerful with each dragon that he killed. He now was getting paid by each province to kill their dragon protectors.’
‘As the years went by the dragons started hearing the story and decided no longer to protect their provinces. Instead we tried to stay in hiding and let mankind fend for themselves, before we became extinct. Although hiding didn’t stop Jonathan from gathering followers and hunting us down.’
‘It has been fifteen years since Jonathan began his quest and now I am the last of my kind. I have decided that I can no longer stay in hiding and I must find a way to get the people back on my side. But first I must trap and kill Jonathan.’
‘The day has come at last and I am camouflaged as a large boulder. I wait for Jonathan to arrive as he is always at the back of the band of hunters so as not to be the most vulnerable. He is nearing closer and then he stops and rests right next to me and he is now alone. I wait for a while because I see he is tired and may fall asleep soon. Even though he is alone he has destroyed my kind and I don’t want to fail at killing him. He is asleep now is my time to strike. So very quietly I lean up open my mouth and go in to have the sweetest meal that I could have in my entire life.’
The last of the dragons is dead. The entire time Jonathan was in front of Quad he was pretending to be tired and falling asleep. Meanwhile all around the area there are people devoted to Jonathan’s cause hiding in the bushes and trees. Everyone is waiting in exhausting excitement for the dragon to make his move so they can spring there trap and kill him. They have several of Jonathan’s machines with the giant arrows on them ready to fire and kill him. The time has come the dragon is making his move and everyone is in a state of great anticipation as they wait for the signal from their commanders to fire.

I'm getting very nervous now because I have about four or five tests coming up within the next couple weeks. This Thursday I have a test in Accounting and a test in Speech. In a couple of weeks I have a test in my Intro to Construction class which is only once a week anyway so for me it is hard to remember everything. Tonight I am looking forward to relaxing because with working part time and going to school full time I don't have much free time to enjoy myself cause most of my free time is spent on homework.

Lately I have been doing some searching for health insurance which isn't easy to do when you are in school full time and only working part time. The Bears were not looking good at all yesterday so I stopped watching with three minutes left. I jumpped on my Harley and rode home which is about fortyfive to fifty minutes so it was enough time to calm down. Saturday I played golf with my dad and my friend but when I was done I was supposed to be home by seven pm so my girlfriend could take me to somewhere for a suprise by eight thirty so I was speeding and freakin out because I thought she was mad at me for being late cause I wasn't going to be home until seven thirty. When I walked in the door it was a suprise party at my own house and she got me good.

I gave my speech yesterday and I'm pretty positive that I got an A on it. I was only a little nervous when I was walking up to the podieum in front of the class. As soon as I got up there I wasn't so nervous anymore and I'm not sure what calmed me down but it wasn't as bad as I expectied it to be. My favorite part of the speech was when I threw in the fact that I have a Harley-Davidson for sale and the teacher smiled and gave me a thumbs up for saying it. Last night I went to a buddies house and played the new Tiger Woods 08 golf game, it was a lot of fun and I kicked his butt. To bad in real life golf it's usually the other way around. In this new game it has a ton of options to change the appearance of your character and all of his equipment. We played the game for several hours until we realized what time it was, it was 1:30 am. so I drove home and went to bed.

Sunday wasn't the best day. I had a softball game at ten in the morning in South Elgin so I had to get up at seven thirty to get there on time. We were doing great only down by one run the whole game and then a couple of players made some errors so we ended up losing ten to seven. Of course the Bears had to have four turn overs in the game Sunday to make them lose the game. On Sunday night my buddy and I went to see the new Mr. Bean movie which was hilarious.

I finally finished training for work yesterday. I can make tips now so I no longer feel like I'm waisting my time. So now that I convinced my speech teacher to let me move my speech to Tuesday I believe that I will do well, but I am still quite nervous. Today I worked on my accounting homework for about four hours and still not quite done, but thank goodness a girl from work is an accounting major so hopfully she is working tonight and will be able to help me.
Most dangerous thing I've done.
The most dangerous thing I've done in my life that I can think of is when I got in a car accident about four weeks ago. It was a Sunday, the day started out normal I woke up got dressed and had a bite to eat, then I grabbed my softball gear through it in the car and headed from my house in Aurora to South Elgin where the game would be held. I got on the field to start the game. Through out the game I made a few decent catches and a few good hits. We lost the game which sucks but is ok because I play to have fun and get a little exercise. After the game I went to my friend's house and we watched a movie and ate some pizza. It was about six now so I got in my car and started to drive home, I was about two or three miles from home when I approached a stop light that was green, half way through the intersection the light turned yellow and an suv coming twords me decided to turn left right in front of me. The accident totaled my car and I was taken in an ambulance to the hospital where I found out I only got a couple pulled muscles. This all occured a week before school started so needless to say I was in a tight spot with money and needing a new car now. I have now gotten a new car and phisically fine.

Definition paper (Hooah)

Definition paper
I was in the military for three years in the United States Army Infantry. The word Hooah
can be used in many diferent ways to motivate and inspire people. It's like in many sports when
they put their hands together then lift them up at the same time and yell the same word or
phrase before getting started with what it is they are about to do. For me when I was in the
Army and used the word Hooah it motivated me to, finish the run, to do one more push-up, to
do one more sit-up, or one more pull-up. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hooah,
hooah means: is ubiquitous in the life of an U.S. Army soldier. In informal situations, a soldier
can reply with "hooah" in place of "Yes, (military rank)" such as "Yes, Sergeant." This can be
useful when the rank of the superior officer is unknown, similar to using simply "Yes,
question, as in "We're going to win this war, hooah?". The most appropriate response to the
question "hooah?" is the exclamation "hooah!" Other popular usages of hooah include: Heard,
Understood, and Acknowledged, Anything and everything except "no", What to say when at a
loss for words, Good copy, Roger, solid copy, good, great, message received, understood,
acknowledged, Glad to meet you, welcome, All right! I don't know the answer, but I'll check
